We recommend the following age ranges for children's beds to make sure they are safe when using them:

• Cot beds – Ages 2 and under
• Toddler bed – Ages 2-4
• Low sleepers – Ages 4+
• Mid sleepers – Ages 6+
• High sleepers – Ages 6+
• Bunk beds – Top bunk ages 6+, bottom bunk ages 3+

This is because taller beds that require a ladder to enter, such as a mid-sleeper or bunk bed, will need your child to get in and out of bed themselves with no problems. Younger children will either struggle with this or may not be able to do so safely, so we recommend they have beds lower to the ground to reduce the risk of accidents.

As a good rule, once children don't need to be in a cot, we recommend that parents ensure their children's beds are as low to the ground as possible. This means that if they roll out of bed at night, there's minimal risk of injury!

Transitioning from a cot to a toddler bed is a big change for your child, and figuring out whether they're truly ready for such a change can be challenging. Some big signs they're ready to move on from a cot bed include trying to escape or being too big.

For most of our beds for children, you'll need to buy a mattress separately. We offer some children's bed and mattress bundles, but most kids' beds are sold without mattresses as standard. You can add one of our suggested mattresses on the product page or at checkout. Otherwise, we have a range of curated kids' mattresses designed to support their bodies as they grow.

You'll also need to make sure that if the boy's bed or girls' bed that you've chosen has safety railings, the mattress is no taller than 16cm.
