These are often called hybrid mattresses, as they combine a layer of comfortable memory foam with a spring structure in the centre for the ultimate support. The two types of spring most commonly found in hybrid memory foam mattresses are:

• Pocket springs – these are individual springs that are wrapped in a 'pocket' of fabric that allows for independent movement and high support.
• Open coil spring – a structure of interlinked springs that evenly distributes a sleeper's weight across the surface.
